Please join us for the 2013 Quality Masonry Conference on January 24th at Quarry Oaks Golf Course. This year's topic is "Designing and Building with Masonry." Registration is from 8:30-9:00am. A continental breakfast and lunch are included in your registration fee.
Seminar Topics Include:
Designing With Concrete Masonry Units for a Healthier Safer Building Environment
Lonnie Ruckman, Masonry Resources - 1.0 CEU
Concrete masonry is an effective solution for the ever changing design environment. Discussion will include the importance of test reports and their relevance to design and sound construction of the building envelope, how good masonry practices can assist designers in achieving the objectives of Green Building and Sustainable Design, proper techniques to create effective results with building acoustics, and the importance of Fire Ratings and the impact on public safety.
Building Single Wythe CMU Walls Without Tears – (New in 2011)
Michael Schuller, Atkinson-Noland & Associates - 1.0 CEU
Single wythe masonry walls can offer significant cost savings but they must be very thoughtfully designed and carefully built in order to perform well. Single wythe walls do not have the redundancy and forgiveness of cavity walls. New developments in manufacturing of both the block and the water repellent products have led us to rethink our original advice on detailing these walls. These changes are not based on conjecture. We built and aggressively tested a sample wall to verify our assumptions. We will share both our test results and our new advice with you.
The Role of Air & Water-Resistive Barriers in the Building Envelope
Matt Henderson, Prosoco, Inc. - 1.0 CEU
An introduction to air and water-resistive barriers and how they work. Their role of air leakage in causing mold in walls and high energy costs is explained. The program includes discussion of the different products on the market. It also explains why contemporary building envelopes need these products now more than ever before.
Cost Effective Design
Michael Schuller, Atkinson-Noland & Associates - 1.0 CEU
Choosing the right masonry wall system when you want to use masonry (block, brick and stone) but have a tight budget. Some value-engineering options work just fine, but others can significantly affect the long-term viability of the building. Understanding your options before you build the structure.
Kearney Public School Design Comparison
Wes Cunningham, Kearney Crete and Block
The Nebraska Concrete Masonry Association is in the process of becoming an AIA Approved Education Provider. We hope to have Pre-Approved credits available for those in attendance.
